BeFree Off-Road Baja Expansion – Introducing the Crew Behind Our Baja UTV Adventures

BeFree Off-Road is expanding its guided UTV adventures into Baja, Mexico — and Baja isn’t a place you explore casually. It’s wild, rugged, beautiful, and unforgiving. Out here, it’s not horsepower or GPS that matters most — it’s the people you have on trail with you. The right crew is everything.

Earlier this month, we traveled to Ensenada with our full U.S. support team — Mike and Tony, who both run sweep support in Baja (and serve as chase and mechanical support on our U.S. adventures) — to finalize routes, logistics, and emergency planning. Because of Mike and Tony’s extensive expertise in the Baja off-road community and their long-standing relationships in the region, we connected with Pedro Sánchez and Ivan Franco — two respected locals who bring emergency rescue, mechanical expertise, and more true Baja knowledge to our team. Together, our Baja locals and U.S. crew form one unified trail team — the backbone of every Baja UTV adventure that BeFree Off-Road offers.

Why the Right Trail Crew Matters in Baja

Baja demands preparation, mechanical skill, medical readiness, and complete trust in the people beside you.

Our strength comes from two combined teams:

   •   Local Baja experts – Pedro and Ivan understand the terrain, emergency systems, ranch roads, military checkpoints, and backcountry routes that only locals know.

   •   U.S. sweep support team – Mike and Tony know our machines, our riders, and how to keep a convoy moving through remote desert and coastline. In Baja, they run sweep together — always the last vehicles in line, and the first to respond.

Baja Trail Crew – Pedro and Ivan

Pedro Sánchez Escalante

Pedro is an EMT and firefighter for the city of Ensenada. He is also the owner of ORR (Off-Road Rescue), an emergency off-road rescue service operating throughout Baja. In addition to his

medical background, he is a professional truck and trailer driver. During our Baja UTV adventures, Pedro serves as our Chase Truck driver and EMT, providing medical support, logistics guidance, and recovery assistance.

Ivan Franco Medina

Ivan works alongside Pedro and brings extensive experience across Baja’s coastline, desert, and mountain routes. He specializes in route logistics, recovery operations, navigation, and mechanical support across remote areas of Baja.

Together, Pedro and Ivan have supported many well-known off-road race teams and events, including SCORE International, the NORRA Mexican 1000, CODE Off-Road, Record Off-Road Series, STORR, Shock Therapy, and Monkey Business Workshop.

U.S. Support Crew – Sweep Operations in Baja

Tony – Electrical/Mechanical Support and Sweep Driver

Tony brings over 25 years of experience in automotive and motorsports. He specializes in electrical diagnostics, fabrication, wiring, and keeping vehicles operating in harsh terrain. In Baja, Tony runs sweep — last in line, first to respond to mechanical issues, recoveries, or trail breakdowns.

Mike – Sweep Support, Mechanical Operations & Spanish Liaison

Mike has over 20 years of off-road experience, beginning with desert and motocross racing before moving into fabrication and race vehicle prep for trophy trucks and off-road race teams. He has logged countless miles in Baja and is fluent in Spanish, with strong connections in the Baja off-road community. During our Baja UTV adventures, Mike runs sweep alongside Tony, providing mechanical support, recovery assistance, and Spanish communication on trail.

What’s Included in Our Baja UTV Adventures

Our Baja UTV adventures are fully supported from start to finish. We include secure parking on the U.S. side of the Tecate border, all lodging and meals, and full mechanical and medical support on trail. Each trip is backed by a chase truck equipped with tools, Polaris Pro R spare parts, Spanish-speaking mechanical support, and both lead and sweep vehicles with local EMT support.

Fuel for your UTV, alcoholic beverages, and any spare parts used from the chase truck are not included. However, in the event of a breakdown, parts are available for purchase on trail, and installation is provided at no additional cost.
